Enclosures were rebuilt, the pond was secured and new (often rescued) animals were brought in. And, slowly, but surely, Higgledy Piggeldy Animal Farm emerged to fulfil her role as a sanctuary for farmyard animals – and for people (especially kids) to enjoy interacting with them.
Environmentally - aware educationalist Ali Corbett (founder of Cape for Kids) has since joined this project in the making. Her educational programmes and booklets, tailor-made to aid the learning experience of visitors to the farm, have already added immense value.
What next? Well, here are some of the innovative initiatives we hope to realise at Higgeldy Piggeldy Farm in the near future:
- a fynbos garden, where children can touch and learn about the flora of their heritage
- outdoor educational games to teach children about the farm and its animals in a fun and educational way
- enviro trails for older children to explore the area and complete user-friendly booklets
