Makemba Boutique
Makemba, is a central African name meaning Freedom.
Makemba is a nomadic bohême designer collection of limited-edition jewelry and clothing. Founded by Jodi Jade, Makemba’s vision is to preserve ancient textile and jewellery craftsmanship.
The Makemba collection includes exquisite silver and brass jewelry, designed and curated by Rodrigo Salazar Castro, an extraordinary artisan from Mexico. Jodi Jade creates gorgeous macrame pieces, each a labour love that weave together her passion for travel and the handmade.
Bespoke pieces from the unique leather collection are handmade by a Zimbabwean artisan, while the clothing range caters to slow fashion aficionados and lovers of tribal art. The clothing collection is expertly crafted from natural fibres of Indian hand loomed cottons, West African mudcloth and hand block prints.

The Creators
Our vision is to preserve ancient textile and jewelry craftsmanship. This we do by merging tribal designs and materials into our new age designs.
The Makemba silver and brass collection is designed and curated by Rodrigo Salazar Castro, an extraordinary artisan from Mexico. Rodrigo apprenticed under the renowned and respected silversmith Poncho Gonzales.
Under the tutelage of this master artisan Rodrigo studied the ancient techniques of jewellery making in the small Mexican village of Xilitla. Rodrigo painstakingly creates each unique piece using his finely honed skills and his passion for the craft.
Jodi Jade grew up in South Africa. Having completed her diploma in Art direction, she sold all of her belongings and began to travel the world.
Her travels wove together time, culture, story and tradition and her artworks became a labor of love. Subsequently her passion of travel, and her love for nomadic design and craftsmanship saw the birth of Makemba Boutique.
