Pure Touch

Beautiful Products made by Beautiful People

Pure Touch is a social enterprise that teaches women from our vulnerable community of Ocean View to knit and crochet products from 100% natural yarns. Every product is handmade from only natural, eco-friendly yarns that have been sourced locally. Using high quality yarns and taking time to meticulously make each product, we can bring you high quality products that you will enjoy for a long time.

We value the environment which is why we source yarns that have been grown sustainably, like organic cotton, bamboo, hemp, sisal and South African merino wool, so as to minimise our carbon footprint. For this reason we make eco-friendly kitchen products like cotton dish cloths, sisal and hemp kitchen scrubs as well as bathroom products that are biodegradable and reusable. You can however also spoil yourself with a high quality merino wool beanie or find a special baby shower gift. Our products are meant to be practical as well as beautiful, adding a touch of luxury to your home.

We value people, especially the women that work in our team, most of whom are the only breadwinners in their family. Making our beautiful products enables them to earn an income and support their children and grandchildren. We also offer social support and counselling if needed.

Our Team

In September 2019, after reading about kitchen scrubs containing microplastics that eventually end up in our oceans, I decided to use my knitting skills and knit my own eco-friendly, biodegradable cotton dish cloths and hemp kitchen scrubs. When the invitation to sell my products in a shop in Kommetjie came, my daughter and me decided on the name Pure Touch and created a logo. Soon my hands were not enough to keep up with demand. Together with a doula and her daughter who lived in Ocean View, supporting young pregnant women, we held an open day in February 2020. We started meeting in my living room twice a week, teaching the women the skill of knitting and crocheting, producing beautiful products and building relationships. Since then, Pure Touch has grown into a community of 12 women that still meet regularly twice a week in Ocean View in a trauma counselling centre for women, to knit and crochet, build relationship, support each other and learn and grow their creative as well as social skills, all within a business structure.
